Position Description
BRUNEI SHELL PETROLEUM COMPANY SENDIRIAN BERHAD, invites suitably qualified Bruneians to apply for the above position

Purpose of Job :
Plan and execute external communication activities including media relations, external relations, advertising and branding as well as provide support for effective crisis communications

Principal accountabilities :
* Plan and Execute Media Relations Policies and Activities :
  - Develop and coordinate company's media strategy
  - Develop media protocol for management and staff
  - Ensure press releases adhere to regulator, shareholders and local cultural requirements
  - Secure approval for press releases from regulator and shareholders
  - Liaise with relevant departments to obtain content for press releases and ensure deadline is met
  - Ensure positive media profiling of the business in local, international as well as Group media
  - Generate positive media coverage for company initiatives in the areas of community development and sponsorships, corporate events and employee relation activities
  - Establish and maintain relationship with key media contacts
  - Ensure monitoring of company’s news in the media is undertaken and reports submitted to management
  - Coordinate arrangements for local, and international media visits
  - Advice management on preparations for media interviews
  - Ensure appropriate media-company engagement programmes such as annual media get-together, media familiarisation visit and media awards are organised

* Coordinate advertising and branding policy and activities :
  - Draft or prepare advertorials, advertising copies and feature stories for local, international and Group media
  - Provide branding advice for exhibitions, merchandise, souvenirs and any corporate events to ensure positive and consistent image
  - Identify opportunities and recommend placements of advertisements in the media

* Provide communication support to management :
  - Research and draft speeches for management
  - Research and prepare presentation slides and briefing packs

* Provide communication support to the line :
  - Provide communication advice to the line for initiatives and projects

* Act as focal point for liaison with Group communications

* Provide support for crisis communications, including during emergencies :
  - Act as focal point for media enquiries, public enquiries hotline and web enquiries
  - Supervise CEA support team in crisis and emergency situations
  - Ensure news releases are distributed to the media during crisis as well as emergencies
  - Provide advice and support on media relations to CEA Emergency Response duty representatives
  - Maintaining updated database of media contacts

* Maintain public enquiry hotline :
  - Ensure public enquiries and complaints are directed to relevant departments for investigations
  - Maintain log of public enquiries

* Provide inputs for corporate communication strategy :
  - Provide inputs on media trends to Coporate External Affairs (CEA)
  - Share feedback from media on company's public profile

* Act as CEA representative in the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) :
  - Advise the ECC on EA strategy and process during an emergency
  - Liaise with external stakeholders, including Office of Minister of Energy, District Office, etc
  - Draft initial holding statement and subsequent news releases
  - Coordinate the logistical aspects such as sending an EA representative onsite

* Manage relevant communication contract

* Support Internal Communications Activities as and when required

Qualifications Required :
* Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications or equivalent
* At least 5 years working experience in the field of Media Relations or Corporate Affairs

Preferred :
* Press or journalistic experience with press and publication companies will be an asset

Experience Required :
* Proven supervisory and leadership qualities, organisational sensitivity

Training :
* Media Relations Training and crisis communications are desired

Special Abilities :
* Can deal effectively with the media and can handle confidential information
* High level of proficiency in business-writing in both English and Malay
* Excellent interpersonal skill
